The key functional areas of Human Resources Management are HR planning,
Recruiting, Selection, Training and development, Compensation, Performance management, and
Human Resource Planning assist the organization in meeting its strategic objective.
It is the process of anticipating and making provision for the movement of people into, within
and out of an organization. Its purpose is to deploy these resources as effectively as possible,
where and when they are needed, to accomplish the organizations goals. Also, HR planning is
used to anticipate labor shortages and surpluses; providing more employment opportunities, and
mapping out employee training programs. Recruitment and selection are also critical to every
organization. A company is only as good as the people it recruits. Recruitment should be part of
an integrated talent management strategy which is driven by the business strategy. Recruitment
can be either internal or external. Internal recruitment has advantages such as lower cost,
employees are acclimated with the organization and the culture, is increases employee morale
and keeps the knowledge within the company. External recruitment also has it advantages as well
such as new ideas are infused into the organization, it brings an opportunity to acquire new skills
not found within the organization and it enables the company to hire people who have knowledge
from competitor’s. Recruitment can be done is several ways such as job searches, job referrals,
supervisor recommendation, skills inventories and job bidding. Selection refers to the process by
which the organization makes the selection decisions to add employees to its workforce, as well
as to transfer existing employees to new positions. Training and development is essential to
