Oral storytelling enables cognitive development, and by extension instructional influence
through stimulation of mirror neurons in the brain cortex (Rizzolatti, Fogassi, & Gallese, 2008,
in Fischer & Immordino-Yang). Humans crave, and remain predisposed to expect, desire, and
prefer the personal expression of voice through sympathetic neural pathways (Rizzolatti, et al.,
2008, in Fischer & Immordino-Yang). This instructional plan presents solutions for a class that
builds on research-based knowledge to teach oral storytelling. Through this instructional plan,
the facilitator will build a bridge between the cognitive influences of oral storytelling and the
ingredients and skills essential to telling a story of influence.
